British Land Rover L405 is a new superhit around

2013 brought in a whole new Range Rover.  There is such a departure from the L322 that an exact comparison can’t be made, but in Range Rover fashion there is so much familiar represented by the evolution of the luxury offroader.  L405 Range Rover is built on an all new all aluminum chassis, this chassis is shared with the Range Rover Sport, and likely an upcoming 2017 Large LR4/Discovery 4 vs the L322 which was only utilized for the full size Range Rover.  The all aluminum monocoque chassis sets many firsts, for land rover and large offroad capable SUVs. Not only is the chassis aluminum but many parts of the running gear are as well including differential carriers.
The L405 is roughly 800 pounds lighter than the outgoing l322.  Which means the big 5.0L V8 is a great match dropping the 0-60 time by almost half a second in Car and Driver road tests (4.7 vs 5.1).  The interior is distilled version of the L322, the best features carry over but are refined.  Button count is said to be down by 50%.  Navigation is updated by USB which in practical terms is better for updates than the hdd, but is perhaps slower?

Off road abilities are retained for example wading is up from 27″ to 36″ and on forums owners report great offroad performance and on road performance.  The handling is still apparently all range rover.
Unlike L322 only certain spec of L405 will have a full size spare.  The tow package adds the full size spare and the ediff.

  • 2o14 Range Rover loses the N/A 5.0L V8 which with a SC V6, power drops from 385hp to 340hp, although at altitude the SC V6 might be better due to forced induction.  The V6 goes to 60 in 7.1s according to edmunds.com  5.0L SC is still offered at 510 hp. 2014 Range Rover Brochure
    • LWB is introduced approximately 8″ longer with  7.3″ for the rear seats makes for a much more luxurious rear seat layout carried over from the 2012 Autobiography Ultimate now called the Executive Rear Seating Package which can be added to the Autobiography.  Decadent back seat experience with ipads, champagne and desk tray.  Meridian 29 speaker system is available and standard on the autobiography.
  • 2015 Range Rover – All models built after 2014 are now E85 capable.  LWB V6 now available.  Land Rover InControl smart phone integration available. Driver Assistance package available with 360-degree parking sensors & lane departure warning. 2015 Range Rover Brochure
    • Holland and Holland Range Rover re-introduced and is fantastic. with special side vents, wheels color, interior, gunbox, and metal etching.  this is the most expensive range rover available at $285,000.Holland & Holland Range Rover GalleryHolland & Holland Range Rover Interior Seats
  • 2016 Range Rover – SVAutobiography is introduced with 550 hp and 502 torques. front seats are up to 20 way adjustable over the mere-plebeian 18-way adjustable seats of 2015.  SVA lists for 205,000.  2016 Range Rover Brochure
    • Turbo Diesel Six Cylinder Engine is introduced in USA with a claimed 0-60 time of 7.4 seconds delivered by 254 hp and 440 torques via 8 speed zf — the power delivery thereof car and driver claims “sufficient at all times but not enough to deliver much in the way of excitement”.  MPG is up to a Prius beating 23MPG city 28MPG Hwy.

  • 2017 Range Rover – is very likely to have a mid-life facelift/upgrade.  Here are our predictions as to what that would likely have:
    • Standard Power will receive a 40hp bump to a 380hp SC V6
    • SC V8 will likely get a bump in power to 550HP
    • Upgraded power on the SVAutobiography and optional 600-650 hp from SC 5.0L (apparently the AJV8 Gen 3 was tested at 750hp — though I doubt they used 5w-20).
    • A new front end is very likely considering the 2017 Range Rover Sport is getting one which signifies a likely family upgrade since the sport is what many would consider new, implying a new 2017 RR as well.
    • It can also be argued that the L322 followed a roughly 3-4 year facelift trend and tata may even be more aggressive.
    • A DTS-X capable audio system with Atmos capability and high sampling frequency capable 32-bit DACs.
    • New interior upgrades are likely with a focus on more luxury and refining from the feedback reported on earlier l405s.
    • Standard Leather Headliner
    • Standard Audio System improved

Miracle survival of Russian Range Rover driver is captured on video after his car slides off an overpass in icy conditions in Sochi and crashes to the street below

This is the shocking moment a Russian driver lost control of his car and slid off an overpass before crashing onto the street below - yet somehow managed to walk away apparently unharmed.
The incredible clip shows cars driving slowly in icy conditions on a slippery road in Sochi, southern Russia, before the driver of a white Range Rover which appears to be travelling too fast loses control and crashes over the barrier.
The CCTV footage shows the large 4x4 car mount the wall before flying into the air and somersaulting down onto the road below at a drop of at least 25ft.

Another CCTV camera shows the car smashing into the tarmac below so hard the wheels are catapulted off and smoke begins billowing from the vehicle.
A car driving in the opposite direction screeches to a halt and the driver runs over the Range Rover and somehow manages to prise open the smashed car door.

The best 4K displays for 4K graphics cards

If you want to play games and watch movies in brilliant Ultra High Definition (UHD), you’re going to need two things.

The first is a 4K-capable GPU, like those you’ll find in AMD’s Radeon R9 Fury Series graphics cards. The second is the best 4K display you can afford.

But what makes a good 4K display? Ideally, it’s a balance between size, connectivity, response time and price. On the one hand, 4K content looks better on bigger screens. But going large often jacks up the money you pay. The lower the price, the fewer the features and the slower the response time/refresh rate.

Then there’s the panel type to consider. TN (Twisted Nematic) screens are cheaper and offer some of the fastest response times. IPS (In-Plane Switching) displays, meanwhile, aren’t as speedy. But they deliver superior colour quality and wider viewing angles.

Finally, the newest gaming monitors often come equipped with G-Sync and AMD FreeSync technology, which allows a PC’s GPU to control a panel’s refresh rate, thereby reducing screen tearing.

While 4K gaming is still in its infancy, there are a number of good 4K displays available. PC GamesN recommends the LG 27UD68P (above), a 27-inch IPS gaming panel with a resolution of 3840 x 2160, a 5ms response time and a 60Hz refresh rate.

“It uses LG’s own IPS technology to deliver the typically outstanding colour reproduction you’d expect from that panel tech, matching it with superb contrast levels too… The other bonus is that it supports AMD’s FreeSync frame synchronising technology. That allows it to cut out the judder you get in-game with VSync – when using compatible AMD cards – and creates a beautifully smooth gaming world for everything you play on it.”

PC Gamer gives a thumbs-up to the Acer Predator XB321HK (below), a 32-inch IPS display with a 3840 x 2160 pixel resolution, 60Hz refresh rate and a speedier 4ms response time.

“At 32 inches, the XB321HK gives you enough screen real-estate to actually put its 3840×2160 4K UHD resolution to good use. (There’s also a slightly cheaper 27-inch variant in the XB271HK.) It’s also an IPS display, so colors are vibrant, regardless of your viewing angle.”

To truly appreciate the joys of 4K gaming, however, bigger is undoubtedly better. T3 recommends the stalwart Philips Brilliance BDM4065UC (below), a 40-inch 3840 x 2160 display with a 60Hz refresh rate and a 8.5ms respone time. Although you’ll be hard-pressed to spot any lag.

“The BDM4065UC is giant 40-inch 4K PC monitor, crossing into the territory of TV-sized displays. Its sheer size alone means that this display is certain to offer an impressive gaming experience, quite unlike that of any other monitor.”

You can always go even bigger. Moving into UHDTV territory enables you to upgrade to a gaming and Blu-Ray-watching experience like no other. The Panasonic DX802 is a 50-inch set with HDR support and four HDMI inputs. Bigger? The 55-inch LG OLED55E6 is a stunning telly with gorgeously inky blacks.

Even bigger? If we’re talking about the best 4K displays, then the Samsung KS9500 range starts at 65 inches and tops out with the 88-inch UE88KS9500.

With the arrival of the Xbox One S and the PlayStation Pro, 4K gaming is poised to take off. There are already blockbuster games that take full advantage of 4K resolutions. Are you ready to play too?
